This afternoon I decide to head out and visit the Maritime Museum. It offers free entry on the first Saturday of the month. So out I went, to the Maritime Museum. There was one part of the museum which had a very graphic and startling display of life in the Ibero Americas - Spanish colonies of South America. Very profound and quite frightening. People think life is dangerous in Africa and some parts of the world. I left the museum thinking - anywhere is fine so long as it is not South America! Disturbing. Thank goodness I am not from there... I will try to do a posting on my visit to that museum sometime soon. It was very interesting to say the least.

The Cathedral |
Afterwards I explored the Gothic area of the city, visiting the museum which houses the artifacts which date back to Christopher Columbus - the first European to set foot in the New World (America). I also entered the Barcelona Cathedral which had mass service on, at the time so I did not have to pay 5 euros to enter. It was so busy and crowded though. I then explored a side street and found another quiet cathedral. I sat down on a pew for a minute, to rest my legs and take in the solemn atmosphere in the church. It hit me that I had a promise to deliver on. I said to my friend Gavin - back home in SA - that I would light a candle for him in a church. I had not yet delivered on my promise. So Gavin, today is the delivery date. I lit a little red one for you my friend. May the flame burn bright and warmly like the wonderful friend you are.
